Artist's Comment
I take pride in the design and integrity of my mosaic creations. Only professional quality tile, adhesives, grout, and sealers are used. In
creating tile table tops, the substrate is usually a 3/4 inch 5-7 ply cabinet grade birch/maple or oak/maple plywood. It is completely
sealed with Red Guard, a water-proofing, non-fracture resistant membrane prior to attaching the concrete board (if required) and
installation of the tile. The tile is attached using ThinSet or like adhesive product. The grout, once cured, is sealed with a commercial
oil-based grout sealer. I finished off the back with an exterior enamel paint followed by a clear coat of polyurethane. Each piece is
signed. Some of my repurposed furniture pieces do not include a cement board substrate, however, every top is prepared and sealed
before the tile design is adhered.
